I work as full-time researcher at the Center for Geosciences of the UNAM in Juriquilla, Queretaro. I completed my undergraduate studies as Engineering Geologist at the Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM and my graduate studies in France, at the Centre de Géologie de l'Ingénieur of the National School of Mines of Paris (CGI-ENSMP), ParisTech-ENSMP , where he obtained a Diploma in Mining and Geotechnical Engineering Geology and my PhD. In 1996 I began research work at the Institute of Geology of the UNAM and I joined the staff of the Centre for Geosciences. Since 2007 I created with other colleagues the Laboratory of Mechanics of Geosystems (LAMG). My principal lines of research include the analysis of stress-strain relations in geological materials, particularly of solid-water interfaces; the study of ground fracturing in continental sedimentary basins; the physical analysis of hydro-stratigraphic units; and, the exploration of the near surface geological sequences using the Ground Penetrating radar (GPR) method.

I study the mechanisms of fracturing in-fluvial-lacustrine volcanic sequences to develop maps of hazards and vulnerability  in urban areas, such as in Mexico and Queretaro cities.  This work has allowed me to obtain some awards in Mexico: the "Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz Award" for outstanding academic performance in the UNAM in 2007, the Engineering Award of Mexico City in 2010, the invitation to be a member of the Engineering Academy of Mexico in 2011; and the Civil Protection Award from the Chamber of Deputies of the City of Mexico in 2014. I am active member of different technical societies in Mexico: the Geological Society, the Geophysical Union and the Society of Geotechnical Engineering.

I have published more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals, proceedings of national and international conferences and book chapters; I have been author or co-author of 3 books. I have been the leader of more than 20 academic-government projects I give lectures and courses related with Environmental Geology and Geomechanics in the UNAM since 1998 and I am currently directing undergraduate and postgraduate thesis.
